Earlier today, Jeff Fowler, director of the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog movie, announced on Twitter that the film will be postponed until Valentine's Day of next year. Earlier this month in response to the widespread criticism on Sonic's design on the Internet, Fowler posted to Twitter that the team at Paramount and SEGA "are fully committed to making this character the BEST he can be" with the hashtag "#gottafixfast". The film was initially supposed to be hitting theaters this November, but the delay is to give artists working on the movie ample time to fix Sonic's design, made apparent by Fowler's use of the lengthy hashtag #novfxartistswereharmedinthemakingofthismovie. This was also a concern addressed by fans who were worried for the artists' health and well-being, knowing they would be rushed and overworked to meet the deadline for the November release date. Netizens are already expressing their respect for the films' creators for making this change.
Fowler posted the image below to accompany the announcement of the film's new release date. Fans immediately took notice that Sonic is wearing gloves here, and they are hopeful this is one of the changes being made to his movie design. Yesterday Netflix announced that the long-awaited Invader Zim movie will finally be arriving this summer.
